We here at Books & Beer are dedicated to our craft. If you heard our cyberpunk episodes, you'll know what we mean. We go pretty hard on the books and we go pretty hard on the beer.
It's mead, okay. We bought our alcohol based largely on the artwork and the names. This looked pretty friggin' S&S to us and we had said we would have to drink mead for this episode. It's not that mead is mentioned in any of the stories but it's easy to imagine Kull or Conan drinking mead. Maybe I'm way off base. You tell me. Anyways, this is Thorin's Viking Mead. Check it out here.
Barleywine just seems to be something our main characters would drink, too. As you can tell, there's nothing to this, folks. We're just reading and getting cross-eyed. No big deal. Karbach is a Texas brewer of some repute here. Although they were purchased by Annheuser Busch last year, they are still making good craft beer and their F.U.N. series is a good measure for that. These beers are small batch and limited release. We walked straight up to this one and picked it up. Barleywine has an intense flavor and when considering that Sword & Sorcery is action-packed compared to what we've read so far, it seems like a good match. Read more about Nigel on Karbach's website.
There are a lot of arrogant bastards in Sword & Sorcery. Many times they are the hero. Most times they are the villain. There are a lot of arrogant bastards on Books & Beer. Andrew, Zach, and Miguel are their names. Arrogant Bastard is a very aggressive beer, known for being a palette killer. Read the very arrogant description on their website.
This was the last beer we chose. Getting bomber sized beers that are all very aggressive in flavor leaves us empty-handed for much of the recording session. Having a six pack on hand keeps the mind lubricated and the conversation lively. We only chose this because it had an axe on it and was a play on off with your head. It took us much longer to land on this one than the rest. We wanted Franzetta art. We settled for an axe. Read more here.
